Roofing : Asphalt Shingles
 Asphalt Shingles

Asphalt shingles are a very economic roofing choice, which why it has a large share of the market for homes with sloped roofs. Asphalt shingles are available in a wide range of styles and price points, and are relatively inexpensive to buy and install.

Fiberglass shingles and organic-mat shingles are two kinds of asphalt shingles available on the market. Fiberglass shingles use fiberglass reinforcing mat. These are thinner and lighter and carry a better fire rating, while organic shingles use a cellulose fiber mat derived from wood and are tougher and stay more flexible in colder weather.

Asphalt shingles are the most commonly used type of shingle. Today they are reinforced with fiberglass mat or an organic material such as paper, wood fiber, and range in durability / The life expectancy of an ordinary three-tab shingle ranges from 20 to 30 years. Our GAF roofing shingles come with a minimum of 25 year lifespan.

Great improvements to asphalt shingle have been made, resulting in a more durable product know as laminated shingles. Laminated shingles are also known as "dimensional" and "Architectural" shingles.

Laminate shingles are also made of asphalt but differ from the "three tab" shingle in design. They were designed to add character, color and depth to roof aesthetics. They are made of multiple staggered layers of material, with a range of durability, typically from 30 to 50 years.
